Costs of living

You have to pay the following expenses during your stay in Bulgaria:
• Tuition fees
• Living costs (accommodation, food, transport, personnel costs for phone, clothes, and others)

All foreigners are required to pay tuition fees that on average are the following:
• EUR 750 – 3500 per year for first, second and long cycle studies
• EUR 7000 – 8000 per year for Medical programs
• EUR 2000 – 3500 per year for an annual preparatory Bulgarian language course to commence studies in Bulgarian

Students require a minimum 250 – 400 euros per month to cover the cost of living. Costs vary depending on where you live and how you live. For example, you should plan on spending more on living and studying in Sofia than in Svistov. The main rule is that you will live on less money in smaller cities than in the capital.

You will pay between 70 and 250 euros per month for accommodation in residence. The rental prices depend on the location and universities. If you wish to be more independent, you could find a flat which could be shared with other students.
Students receive a discount for local transport and some events and cultural venues like theatres, museums, opera houses, cinemas.

Carrying cash

You must declare to the customs authorities, if you plan to enter or leave Bulgaria with EUR 10 000 euros or more in cash (or the equivalent in other currencies).
